A short should not be an issue with a non metallic wick. As long as your coils are not touching the cap or droopimg down onto the base. With a non metallic wick the only short your going to get would be issues with the positive post shorting before the coil in which case you won't be getting any power to the coil so no vape anyways.

Your metallic taste doesn't necessarily mean a short. Newly oxidized ss mesh wicks will taste slightly metallic majority of the time. You can tell a short on ss mesh if you get a hot spot, noticeable offset heating, or popping a coil. If your ohms reading is jumping that's another indication.

He means fluctuating ohms. If your resistance is changing you have a short. However as mentioned while using silica you will not get shorts from the wick. Any short on a non metallic wick will be from bad battery connection, bad positive post connection, bad ground connection, or coil touching lid/base of rba.

If you wrap the wire around the screw before it in the hole when u tighten it down your not going to bottom out your threads because the wire gets In them making the screw feel like it is tight when it's not. Take the screw out and fold the lead of you wire over a bit on the end and stick the folded bit into the connection and crank your screw in.
What does it mean when a vape mod says it has a short circuit?
When your vape mod tells you that it has a short circuit, it means that something is critically wrong with the electrical circuit connecting the battery in your vaping device to the atomizer coil. You might get the “Atomizer Short” message, for instance, if unexpected metal-on-metal contact occurs inside your tank. For example, maybe the coil in your tank is cross-threaded, so the coil is seated a little higher in the tank’s base than it should be, and that’s causing the tank’s chimney to touch the heating wire inside the coil. A manufacturing defect in the coil can also cause a short circuit.
What does it mean when a vape mod says "Time Out"?
The message “Time Out” means that the length of your puff has exceeded what your vape mod’s puff timer will allow. Most vaping devices have built-in puff timers that help to prevent overheating. Suppose, for instance, that you’re carrying your vape mod in your pocket, and you’ve forgotten to lock it. You inadvertently push and hold the mod’s fire button when you sit down. Without a puff timer, that’s a potentially dangerous situation. With a puff timer, though, the device automatically cuts off, so its temperature stays in a safe range.
What does it mean when you see the check atomizer?
If you’re still seeing the “Check Atomizer” message after performing the previous steps on this list, it’s likely that the coil has a manufacturing fault.
What to do if you can't get rid of check battery?
If you can’t get rid of the “Check Battery” message with a removable-battery mod regardless of what you do, you need to replace the battery. If the mod has a permanent battery, it’ll most likely be necessary to replace the entire device unless its warranty is still active.

The first step you should try if your pod vape isn’t firing or says check atomizer is cleaning out your contact points.
What causes a check atomizer short?
Loose pieces of metal on the build deck will cause your mod to display “Check Atomizer” or “Atomizer Short”. Even very small pieces or trimmings of wire can cause a short or a check atomizer error on an RDA/RTA/RDTA. First, inspect the build deck closely for loose pieces of wire or other foreign objects.
How to clean a tank after taking apart?
Once you’ve taken apart your tank, unscrew your coil from the base of the tank. Now, you’ll want to clean the bottom of the coil where it screws into the tank and makes contact. You’ll also want to clean your tanks contact point with the mod as well. Once done, reseat your coil, and reassemble your tank.
Why is my mod reading the new tank correctly?
If your mod is reading the new tank correctly, it could be a problem with the coil on your other tank. You might also want to clean the contact points on the tank that was giving you the error. If your mod is still reading “check atomizer” with a new tank, it’s probably a problem with your mod.
Why is my pod not firing?
Dirt or ejuice can prevent a proper connection between your pod and the device and this can cause the device to not fire or to throw a check atomizer/no atomizer error.
Why is my atomizer checking?
Sometimes a check atomizer error can be caused by your coil. If cleaning your contact points didn’t work then you can try reseating your coil. You’ll want to take apart your tank as if you were changing the coil. Unfortunately, this can be a little bit messy and isn’t always convenient to do if you have a considerable amount of ejuice left in your tank.
How to remove a tank from a mod?
Start by removing the tank from the mod and inspect the threading where the tank screws in for dirt , dust, or ejuice. Do the same with the 510 connector on your mod. Clean out the contacts with a paper towel, and screw your tank back onto your mod.

What does it mean when your mod is low?
If that’s the case, check the resistance of your coil . Each mod will fire at a certain resistance range; if the resistance of your coil is lower than that, your mod will refuse to fire it.
Why do atomizers use peek insulators?
Almost all atomizers these days use PEEK insulators to separate the positive from the negative. Any damage to your insulators may cause a short, resulting in an “atomizer short” or a similar error.
What to do if your coil doesn't work?
If it still doesn’t work, try another coil. If the new coil works, you just got a bum coil which happens from time to time. For rebuildables, make sure to check your coils and all the connections are tight. The screws on a post may loosen a bit after during the build process—they may also loosen gradually with time.
Can you use a different atomizer with a mod?
Remedy: While there is nothing you can do yourself—unless you are familiar enough to replace or modify a 510 pin on a mod—sometimes using a different atomizer could work. Atomizers have different lengths on their 510 pins and some mods may just not work well with a shorter or longer one. While it’s somewhat rare these days, it is possible for an atomizer to not be compatible with a mod due to its 510 pin. If some atomizers work and others don’t, it’s likely a poorly designed 510 connection on the mod.
Can you let juice leak on a mod?
Don’t let juice leak on your mod—it may find its way to the circuitry. Overtightening atomizers – people often overtighten their atomizers, to the point where they break the 510 pin out and/or snap the ground wire internally. Don’t over tighten your atomizer.
