A lot depends on the build, ohms of your coil, and watts vaped at. Most of my cotton wick builds I can get 1 to 3 weeks off of heavy vaping of 8 ml a day. Some I'll do on a weekly basis others can go 2-3 weeks. I'll usually change it out if switching flavors unless it is vaping good still and the new flavor compliments the previous flavor.

On average, a decently constructed coil for a sub-ohm tank should last you 4 days to 1 week. If you vape less because you cannot vape during work hours, or you do not vape throughout the day, then your coils are likely to last twice as long.

Why does my vape cotton keep burning?

The solution: When we vape at a wattage too high for our coil heads, the e-liquid in the wicking (cotton) vaporises faster than the wick is able to re-saturate, resulting in dry cotton burning!

How long does cotton last?

Cotton: decomposes in about 5 months Organic cotton is one of the most sustainable fabrics, in part because it can decompose so quickly. When composted, it can decompose in only a few weeks. Here is how you should clean your replaceable coils: Let your coil soak in ethanol, vinegar, or cheap vodka for at least a couple of hours. Place it under the tap and rinse. Rinse once more with some distilled water.

Why is my coil burnt after 2 days?

That burnt taste can occur if there's not enough e-liquid on the wick inside your atomizer coil. The wick is the part of your device that soaks up the e-liquid, which is then turned into vapour when the coil heats up.

Why does my vape cotton turn brown?

E-juices that contain sugar or sweeteners will often turn cotton wicks brown. This happens because the heat will cause the sugars in the e-juice to caramelize. The caramelization process leaves behind the brown color, which is actually just residue from the sugar, on the cotton wick.

I have two Kayfun 3.1 EH Pro clones that I have set up with a 2.1 ohm micro coil and cotton wicking. They stay at home most of the time so Irun at most 4 ml of juice thru them weekly. How often should I change out thewicking and dry burn the coils.

Chadastrophic Senior Member

I probably go somewhere around 20-25ml before I pull the cotton and dryburn.

I would say it depends on the liquid and how hot you vape. I vape coffee liquids for the most part and usually run 5-6 ml before I do a dry burn and re-wick but my liquids are hard on wicks so ymmv.

Sounds like the juice makes a big difference. I will experiment and see how long I can go before they start tasting bad or gum up.

I just got my first kayfun 2 days ago. I went through almost 8ml since and changed the cotton just now, mainly to see how easy it would be. I didn't have any burning taste or degradation of flavor at all except when I was trying to get the last few drops of juice out before opening it up.

Why does my vape taste weird?

A vape might taste odd due to an unclean tank or a flavor swap, which often produces an aftertaste. However, it could also mean that your coil is dirty or old and needs replacement.

What to do if a coil is wrong inserted?

In the case of the wrong insertion, you can try to unscrew the coil and properly reattach it to see how the vaporiser behaves. If the issue persists, you can try another coil and observe for a difference.

What does it mean when you notice a different flavor of e-liquid?

For example, if you’re already used to a particular e-liquid flavor and you try a different brand, you’ll definitely notice the difference if it tastes different from what you’re used to, and that may indicate that you need to swap your coil with a new one.

Is changing coils important?

To begin, note that changing out coils is an important part of owning a vape. Besides, it’s the price you have to pay for the convenience and effectiveness of vape mods.

Do juices wear out coils faster?

Also, the juices that you use matter. Juices that are high in VG content ( sub-ohm e-liquids) wear out coils faster than their PG-based options; the same with juices that contain artificial sweeteners.

Can you refill a tank with e-juice?

However, ensure you use the e-juice you plan to refill your tank with to prevent mixing flavors.

What to do if your vape is burning?

Which is better, cotton or rayon?

Deciding which material to use is a matter of personal preference, but it’s important to note that cotton wicks will need to be replaced more often than rayon wicks. Cotton tends to gunk up a lot quicker than rayon, and you’ll end up getting those awful dry hits much quicker with cotton .

Can you take a RDA tank apart?

If you’re using an RDA or a rebuildable tank, you’ll most likely be taking it apart on a regular basis. When you do, make sure that you inspect the wicks for any burnt ends or discoloration.

Does the wick absorb e-liquid?

The wick definitely absorbs your e-liquid, so if you’re switching out flavors you’re likely going to get a bit of residual flavor from your previous juice.

Can you use wicks in a dry herb vaporizer?

Dry herb vaporizers don’t use wicks, since there is no liquid to absorb. But the coil (also known as the heating element) can degrade over time. Most manufacturers sell complete heating chambers for replacement. You can replace your heating chamber whenever you notice that the vapor quality and production is declining. But since dry herbs don’t come into direct contact with the heating element, the chamber is most likely going to last much longer than an e-juice coil. Vaping the reefer is definitely a little bit easier (at least maintenance-wise) when compared to the effort you have to go through when vaping e-liquid with a tank or RDA.
