How many wraps do I need for my coils?
So while a 12 wrap 22g might just fry the center of the cotton within a few pulls, a 16 wrap 30g coil would be perfectly fine. At this point though with the thicker wire it might be better to put a space in between the wraps and separate it like 6 wraps, …

Should you build your own vape coils?
Mar 13, 2014 · your must have tool is the ohm meter to check . also a 2mm drill bit may be a little big. you want something around 1.2-1.4mm drill bit. then about 5 wraps should do it but again its all down to how you compress the coils. gaps = higher ohms.

What is the best wire for vaping?
Stainless steel wire is the most versatile among vaping wires. This is the only vape wire that can work both wattage and TC modes, making this wire is ideal for those who are still choosing between TC and wattage mode.
What does it mean to have two coils?
Using dual coils means you’re creating a second path for electricity. This means that resistance gets halved. You just need to make and install 2 coils. Make the two coils as identical as possible. Make sure that you install and position them in a similar manner.
How to tell if a wick is too much?
Push the wicking material in from one side of the coil and pull it out on the other side. If it gets snagged, you’re using too much wicking material. If your wick slides loosely inside the coil, you’re using not enough material.
How to get wick to work?
Get a piece of wicking material that is big enough to snugly fit inside your coil. Make sure that you have about half an inch of coils space on either side. You can also wet and twist the end of the wick to get it started.
How to use e-juice on RDA?
You need to trip them just long enough so you can fold them over to sit on the deck of the RDA. Use a few drops of e-juice to wet the wick. Fold them on to the RDA deck. Do not push them underneath the coil. This will allow air to reach the entire coil.
What do you use to pinch coils?
Ceramic tweezers: This is a tool that you use to pinch your coils while pulsing. You can also use a needle-nose set of pliers or forceps.
Does a vaping kit come with coils?
You might want to check your vaping kit though. Most rebuildable comes with coil building supplies.
How much resistance do you need for a vape coil?
This is the final resistance of your coil (s). The majority of vapers typically build between 1 – 1.5 ohms, however, if you’re interested in sub ohm vaping, you want a target resistance anywhere under 1 ohm.
How many strands of wire are needed for a coil?
This will enable you to select either a single strand of wire, or up to four strands running parallel/twisted. The most commonly used is a single strand, however, using more than one strand will reduce the overall resistance or increase the surface area of the coil.
What is the diameter of a coil?
Some people use a drill bit while others use a purpose made ‘coil jig’ of various sizes. The most common inner coil diameter size is 2.5mm. The diameter of the wire in inches is shown to the side for the corresponding diameter in millimetres selected.
What is the difference between a single coil and a dual coil?
If the Build Deck Configuration is ‘single’, the coil resistance will match the target resistance. If the Build Deck Configuration is ‘dual’ , the resistance of each coil will be twice that of the Build Deck Resistance.
What does the Watts value mean on a coil?
This value indicates the level of power (Watts) you’re coil will vape at with a fully charged battery (only applicable when using a Mechanical Mod).
Is each wire type different?
Each wire type has slightly different properties, therefore it’s important that you select the correct type of wire that you’re using, otherwise the overall resistance or wraps shown in the results section won’t be correct.
What time does Ariesjj cover coil wrapping?
Ariesjj goes over each of the Steam Engine calculators, the Coil Wrapping Calculator is covered at 6:17.
How to find the circumference of a coil?
The circumference of your coil is then by multiplying the outer diameter with π, and we have length of a single wrap.
What is the result of a coil where the legs point in the opposite direction?
If you’re building a coil where the legs point in the opposite direction to each other then you will use the “- rounded to “full wraps”” result.
Why is density used in coil material?
The density of the coil material is used to calculate the wire mass and heat capacity. Because of lacking data on the density of different Nichrome alloys (except N80), the density of the Nichrome qualities are interpolated from the densities of the main alloy elements.
What is coil calculator?
This coil calculator is a pretty simple and straightforward digital model of the geometry and electrical properties of an atomizer coil, and can be expected to at least be consistent with itself . Real life, on the other hand, involves a myriad of ways to introduce error to your numbers:
How to determine the resistance of a wire?
Wire resistance per length is determined by the specific resistivity of the wire material, and the cross section area of the wire. The specific resistivity for each material is looked up in a small table of constants.
How many strands are there in a twisted wire?
Number of strands Max 4 for twisted wire.
What is the number of wraps in an atomizer?
Number of wraps. If you're making a coil for an atomizer where both the coil legs point in the same direction, the "Number of wraps rounded to half wraps" is the result you want. If you're coiling for an atomizer where the legs point in the opposite direction, use the "Number of wraps rounded to full wraps" result.
How to find the circumference of a coil?
The circumference of your coil is then by multiplying the outer diameter with π, and we have length of a single wrap.

How to find wire diameter on a spool?
Enter this in the AWG field or the field to the immidiate right of this, labeled ⌀ r .
How to find resistance wire length?
The resistance wire length is your set target resistance divided by the wire resistance per unit length. Leg length is subtracted before calculating the number of wraps.

i have a 2mm drill bit and im wondering how many wraps of the coil i will need to create a resistance of about 1.8ohm?
tikkatock Initiate
Hi mate. I've not long been playing around with an igo w and recoiling some vivi nova heads so I know where you're coming from. I'm using an MVP atm so I'm generally keeping my ohms around 1.5 +. In the last week I've found my sweet spot to be about 2.1 ohms which gives me a little room to play around with the variable wattage.

im guessing that with using a 2mm drill bit and 10 wraps i can guess that the length of the wire will be around 7 cm?

Fairly new at rebuilding my own coils. Just got a Infinite Magma this week and have had some success with building single coils for it (I haven't tried building a sub-ohm coil just yet).

I think part of the equation that matters to me when deciding how or what to build is not addressed in your post. Airflow, where its coming from and how much. With your magma, do you like a tight draw or open? Wicking material can also play a part in the decision process, i.e.

I have found that longer coils will produce better flavour as there is more wick touching the coils and therefore been vaped! Usually i build duel coils at 0.6 ohms with 26 awg Nichrome with a 2mm diameter is aprox 8 wraps with japanese cotton great flavour, over loads of vape IMO.
