We'd usually suggest sticking to around 6 wraps as this will give you a good cross sectional surface area with decent flavor.

How many wraps on a vape coil?

The average number of wraps on a vape coil is anywhere from 6-10 wraps for a good result. If you can get back in touch with us and tell us what wire type you’re using and the desired resistance of the coil you wish to build then we can give you a little more guidance.

What size wire do I need for my vape?

The default wire is set to round Kanthal A1 which is the most common wire used in vaping devices. The wire diameter needs to be specified in either American Wire Gauge (AWG) or millimeters. Enter this value in the AWG or millimeter field.

How many wraps on a 30gauge ni80?

I’m vaping with 14 wraps on 30gauge ni80, single coil. I want one battery to run all day, so the power required is low, resistance is 2.23. However, I saw on a YouTube video about building, that we should aim for 8-10wraps, no more.

What wattage should I be Vaping at?

On the other hand our 35.28 Watts figure refers to the wattage you would be vaping at, using a fully charged battery at 4.2V, on an unregulated mod (mechanical mod). This figured is derived from Ohms Law. Ultimately though you can experiment with the wattage you’re using on a regulated mod and see what works best for you.

How many watts do I need for a .23 ohm coil?

Wattage range 20-45W.

What does more wraps on a coil do?

HOW DOES THE NUMBER OF WRAPS AFFECT MY COIL? The more wraps, the higher the resistance, which goes on to affect flavour and cloud production. 8 wraps is a good starting point, but you can wrap your wire around more times if you want a different resistance.

Do more wraps equal higher ohms?

Wrapping the coil manually: You need to wrap it tightly around the screwdriver 4 to 8 times. The number of wraps will affect the resistance, more wraps will result in a higher resistance.

How do you count loops in a coil vape?

Double check your number of wraps by counting them on the side of the coil that is opposite of the leads. Once you are sure your coils has 8 wraps you can hold one lead firmly with your fingers and pull on the other lead with your tweezers or pliers then repeat with the other lead.

How many wraps should my coil be?

How many coil wraps do I need? This depends completely on what type of coil you're building, your target resistance and even how much flavor you want from your coil. We'd usually suggest sticking to around 6 wraps as this will give you a good cross sectional surface area with decent flavor.

How do you count coil wraps?

If you're making a coil for an atomizer where both the coil legs point in the same direction, the "Number of wraps rounded to half wraps" is the result you want. If you're coiling for an atomizer where the legs point in the opposite direction, use the "Number of wraps rounded to full wraps" result.

What wattage should I vape at 0.4 ohm?

For example, a 0.4-ohm mod may recommend a 23 - 28 watt setting, and a 0.8-ohm mod may recommend you use up to 35 watts. Some recommendations can go much higher (e.g., 200 watts). Sub-ohm devices work best when using a high VG vape liquid (e.g., a VG/PG ratio of 70/30).

What wattage should I vape at 0.15 ohm?

The lower resistance options (0.15 to 0.3 ohms) can generally go from anything ranging between 60 and 110 watts. Start at the mid point and work your way up - the more heat you get the more intense the flavour will be.

What is the best wattage for sub ohm vaping?

Sub ohm devices utilize low resistance coils that are less than one ohm, hence the name sub ohm. They also provide enough airflow suitable for direct lung inhalation. Sub ohming typically requires vape mods capable of putting out a minimum of 40 watts, but the higher levels can reach and exceed 200 watts.

How do you calculate coil windings?

Call the number of turns N and the length l. Calculate the inductance associated with the winding using the formula L = (u0 * A * N^2)/l where u0 is the permeability of free space at 12.56 x 10^-7. If N is 100 turns, l is 6 meters and A is 7.069 square meters.

What wattage should I vape at 0.20 ohm?

0.3 ohms - 40 watts to 90 watts. 0.2 ohm coils - 40 watts to 100 watts.

Why are my coils not heating evenly?

Are Your Coils Symmetrical? If your coils vary in size, orientation or distance from the posts, uneven burning can occur. Ensure that number of wraps you do for each coil is even and they are sitting at the same height from the juice well and similar distance from the posts.

Does coiling a wire increase resistance?

The simple answer is no. Winding wire on a non-ferrous form will not change its resistance.

What is the best wattage for a 0.5 ohm coil?

Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for the appropriate wattage range for a coil. You will usually find the range on the packaging, in the product description, or in the technical specs. For example, a 0.5 ohm coil will vape best at 15 watts up to 50 watts.

Is lower ohms better for vaping?

Higher Ohm Coils The best way forward when looking to perfect your vape is to simply try different resistance levels and see how you get on.

What is the best wattage for a 0.2 ohm coil?

0.2 ohm coils - 40 watts to 100 watts.

What is the best starting range for a vaporizer?

Personally, we think a great starting range would be something like 0.5ohms to 1ohm. Anything on that scale should give you great flavor and vapor! As long as you know how to wick properlyof course…

How to wrap a coil?

To wrap a coil, you’ll need either a drill bit, a screwdriver or (ideally!) a coil jig to wrap the wire around. The size of whatever you use dictates the inner coil diameter.

What type of wire is used for variable wattage?

Kanthal A1 and Nichrome N80 are the two types of wire used for Variable Wattage mode only. Stainless Steel (316) can be used in either Variable Wattage or Temperature Control (TC) mode.

What is a full wrap?

A full wrap refers to the coil legs pointing in opposite directions.

Where is the coil on a stock atomizer?

The norm for stock coils, this is basically a standing coil situated in the centre of your build deck reaching toward the top of your atomiser.

What gauge is used to determine the size of Kanthal wire?

The actual type of wire size is identified by Gauge (AWG). Kanthal Wire can be used in many different sizes and on many different types of Rebuildable Atomizers. There are many different types of wick you can use to wrap your Kanthal wire around as well which will determine the outcome of your Ω (Ohms).

How to tell the diameter of Kanthal wire?

To understand the Diameters of Kanthal wire you must know that the Higher the number Gauge (AWG) = thinner wire = higher resistance per foot and the Lower the number Gauge (AWG) = thicker wire = lower resistance per foot. When you are dealing with length, the longer the wire = higher resistance and the shorter the wire = lower resistance.

What is Kanthal wire?

Kanthal wire is a ferritic iron, chromium-aluminium alloy and is used to build Rebuildable Atomizers (RBA’s)and Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers (RDA’s) for Mechanical Mods (Mech Mods). Kanthal Wire can be heated at temperatures up to 1400°C (2550°F).

How many AMPs is a 35 ohm battery?

The combination of .35Ω (Ohms) and 3.7Volts = 10.5 Current (AMPS) which is less then the 30AMP battery you are using, so you are good to go!

What gauge gives you higher or lower ohms?

When dealing with Kanthal wire the different size Gauge (AWG) will give you a certain amount of Ω (Ohms), so it is very important to understand which size Kanthal Wire Gauge will give you higher or lower Ω (Ohms).

How many AMPs is 3.7 volts?

The combination of .09Ω (Ohms) and 3.7Volts = 41.1 Current (AMPS) which is more then the 30AMP battery you are using, so you will either need a battery with larger Amps or simply try another build with more wraps and higher resistance or 09Ω (Ohms).

What is 24 gauge wire?

24 Gauge (AWG) with a very short wire build, with 2/3 wrap (two coils on top, 3 coils on bottom) would give you a VERY LOW RESISTANCE which would result in VERY LOW Ω (Ohms). An example of your ohms would be .6 – .9Ω (Ohms)+.

Just purchased an Igo-T and would like to try out dripping in lieu of using a tank. How many wraps and what gauge does everyone recommend for a single or double coil build?

Cman1337 Full Member

I use a SS Quasar by Cosmic innovations with 6 wraps of 24 guage wire. Comes out to 0.190 ohms. I honestly never drip mine unless I test it with a reader. But I think 28 gauge wire with 8-10 wraps would be great for dual coil. I do know on one of the sits it claims "The manufacturer recommends that you do not exceed 7.5 amps with this device ."

Dual coil - 28g Kanthal at 7-10 wraps should land you between 1.4-1.9 if you have ~1.5mm inner diameter.

If you find a single coil you like with 28 gauge, you can wrap 2 the same way with 32 gauge and get pretty close to the same resistance.

p7willm Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

One thing you MUST do is check the resistance of any coil you make before you use it on a mechanical mod. Use an Ohm's law calculator and be sure the battery you are using is up to providing the amps the build will take.

Sthur Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

I run a 5/64 bit with 28 guage and 5 wraps running dual coil at 0.5 ohms. It vapes great and around 8.5 amp on a 30 amp vtc4.

How much resistance do you need for a vape coil?

This is the final resistance of your coil (s). The majority of vapers typically build between 1 – 1.5 ohms, however, if you’re interested in sub ohm vaping, you want a target resistance anywhere under 1 ohm.

What does the Watts value mean on a coil?

This value indicates the level of power (Watts) you’re coil will vape at with a fully charged battery (only applicable when using a Mechanical Mod).

What is the wire gauge called?

This represents the thickness of the wire and is referred to as ‘American Wire Gauge ’. You may also see the wire thickness referred to as SWG (Standard Wire Gauge) or in millimetres. The diameter of the wire in millimetres is shown on the right for the corresponding AWG selected.

How many strands of wire are needed for a coil?

This will enable you to select either a single strand of wire, or up to four strands running parallel/twisted. The most commonly used is a single strand, however, using more than one strand will reduce the overall resistance or increase the surface area of the coil.

What is the diameter of a coil?

Some people use a drill bit while others use a purpose made ‘coil jig’ of various sizes. The most common inner coil diameter size is 2.5mm. The diameter of the wire in inches is shown to the side for the corresponding diameter in millimetres selected.
